Little Rock 9

What Next? - Conclusions?

Intro · Question · Review Info · Roles · Group Solution · Next? · Guide

Sometimes events that happen a lifetime or two ago still affect day-to-day life. When nine students wanted to get a better education by going to Central High School in Little Rock, many people wanted to stop them. When illegal immigrants in California wanted to attend school, the voters of the state passed a proposition outlawing it. When some parents want a better education for their children, they send them to private schools even though they pay taxes to support public schools. Should they get a voucher or tax rebate? When a student of a different race sits beside you at lunch, how do you feel? When O.J. Simpson was acquitted, how did you feel?

It seems that from our nation's very beginnings, race has been an issue Americans have struggled with. Struggles for civil rights, legal justice, and equal education have prompted many citizens to question what's right.

In this WebQuest, you have struggled with many issues and have come up with a shared belief. This probably wasn't easy. It hasn't been since 1957 or even 1865 or 1776. And it won't be any easier in 2010 when many students of today will have school age children. We appreciate the efforts you've made. So will they.
