About Some City Public Library

Mission and Philosophy

Some City Public Library has a long commitment to serving the needs of the very diverse community of Some City. Since 1980, Some City has participated in long range planning which has evaluated all aspects of library services and collections in an effort to provide effective programs and materials. As a result, a formal Collection Development Policy and a Technology Plan has been adopted. The library maintains a collection of books, videos, magazines and cassettes in both Spanish language and English language.

The library has had a CDROM local area network since 1991, has a large Community Computing Center, and has created a system of resource sharing and personnel outsourcing with the local elementary school district.

Location and Community

Some City Public Library is located south of the city of San Diego in San Diego County, California. Almost 50 percent of Some City's 58,000 residents are of Hispanic origin. The Asian population comprises another 16 percent. The library serves ten elementary schools, two junior high schools and one high school.

Library Departments

Children's Services: Some City Public Library prides itself in presenting some of the best children's programming anywhere. A visit to SCPL any afternoon during the week will impress upon you that this is a place for families and children. The Children's Room sponsors a variety of special activities including Fifth Grade Visits, RIF book distribution, and the Ewing Memorial Story Writing Contest.

Adult Services: Adult Services encompasses the Reference Department, the Local History Room and all of the books, magazines, and materials located in the Adult section of the library. Since 1991, the Adult Services Deparment has sponsored the annual Fiesta Biblioteca.
